FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

July 18, 2007 5:44pm Update
Hi Everyone: There isn't a lot to report about Adam, specifically. He continues to do well. The hardest thing for him is that he recovers from his skin graph surgery, then right away has to undergo another one. There was a nice write-up in the SF Chronicle today. You can find the article along with some very cute pictures of him at www.sfgate.com.

Many people have asked about the little 11 year old, Caesar, who witnessed the crime. We fully expect to reward him with some amount of money no matter what happens with the two girls. Currently we're trying to arrange for Caesar and Sarah (his original caretaker) to visit Adam at Animal Hospital of Cotati. And, if you would like to write a special note to our little hero, Caesar (either e-mail or cards/letters), we'd be happy to deliver them to him. I don't think he has any idea how many people are following this story, how instrumental he was in saving little Adam or in solving the crime. (He's only 11, after all!)

I also spoke with our Animal Control Officer who did the investigating of the crime. He told me the girls arrested for Adam's burning (or at least one of them) were the ones who actually stole the traps full of kittens from the trapper's porch. (We didn't know if someone else had stolen them and they found them later OR if they were the ones who originally took them.) The girls claim they let the other kittens go although we haven't had any reported sightings of them from the area. The good thing is that they are feral cats, know how to survive on their own and would naturally remain hidden from view. The trap that Adam was burned in was recovered. Animal Care & Control believe that the 2nd trap containing the other group of kittens was thrown in the garbage (empty). Something that appeared to be a trap (again, empty) was reportedly seen in a dumpster the day following the incident, but by the time we got to it, the garbage had been picked up. Another trap was found on the property and returned to us, but it was NOT the one that housed the 2nd group of kittens.

I spoke with the District Attorney's office today. They say the case is "progressing" as it should be. (By the way, they have received SO many phone calls about this case that they have a separate message line set up specifically for the "Adam Case".)

We've collected nearly 50 names of folks who have offered to adopt Adam. Our hope is that Tina, his devoted foster mom will end up with him, but adoption is a long way off. We have LOTS of other "special needs" cats that desperately need homes. Maybe you'll consider one of them?

Here at Forgotten Felines, we have received many beautiful cards and letters. Adam has received some darling notes, pictures, toys and treats from his feline friends out there. In addition to all of the very generous local and state wide donations, we've also heard from folks as far away as Monticeto, MN; Tampa, FL; New York, NY; Arlington, VA; and just received a phone call from a woman in Philadelphia, PA.

As always, on behalf of Adam, everyone at Animal Hospital of Cotati and all of us at Forgotten Felines, thanks so much for your care and concern. It has truly made a difference in every aspect of this case.
