FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 2, 2007 4:06pm Update
Hi All: Adam is doing very well! He went home over the weekend with his main caregiver, Tina Wright, who is a vet tech at Animal Hospital of Cotati.
His pain meds have been greatly reduced - less pain, less medication. His ears are still very tender and a board certified surgeon, Dr. Lisa Alexander,
from Animal Care Center will be doing surgery tomorrow to alleviate some of that discomfort. (She is donating her time!!) She'll also be doing a
necessary procedure on some of the extremely burned areas so they can heal more readily. He is getting physical therapy, gaining weight and acting
more and more like a normal kitten every day. Tina says she knows the meaning of each of his little meows - and he's a vocal little fellow.
As was reported in the Press Democrat on Friday, we expect to hear that charges will be filed against a 15 year old girl who made a statement to
Animal Control regarding the incident last week.
Now that we feel as though Adam is out of the woods and the perpetrator has been found, we're focusing on what happened to the rest of the kittens.
We have been told that they were released from the traps on site. We're following up on every potential sighting.
Donations continue to come in to help us offset the cost of Adam's care. We are forever grateful for the assistance. Although we have no idea at this
time what our expenses will be and for how long they will continue, IF our donations exceed our expenses for Adam, the leftover monies will go into our
"Fluffy Fund". This is a fund we started three years ago which accepts donations for just this kind of situation - cats and kittens in need of special
medical assistance over and above spay/neuter. Although Adam is an extreme case, I'm sorry to say that Forgotten Felines and every shelter in this
county see cases of animal neglect and abuse on a regular basis.
There is still erroneous information floating around out there, so all I
can say is "don't believe everything you hear or read. If you have questions
or concerns, please feel free to call us directly!
And, although I know so many of you are interested in his well-being, if you could refrain from calling Animal Hospital of Cotati, it would be greatly
appreciated. Although they're happy to talk about Adam, they do have a business to run and our having Adam there has taken its toll on their
ever-so-gracious staff. Please either call Forgotten Felines for your updates or better yet, wait for your daily e-mail.
Many, many thanks.
